I can't be there in person, but this tweet prompted me to think about submitting something around Wikidata.

Here's what I just submitted:

  • Unconference Session Title
    • Wikidata for OpenConers
  • Session Description
    • The purpose of the session is to highlight how OpenCon and Wikidata intersect in terms of goals, content, workflows and community.
    • Wikidata is a multilingual open data platform, the edit button for the semantic web. Closely integrated with its sister Wikimedia projects (e.g. Wikipedia, Wikivoyage, Wikisource), it contributes increasingly to open education. Likewise, it is growing in importance as an open science hub that links thousands of cultural, scientific and other databases, including libraries and repositories. It also stores bibliometric metadata and open citations and provides new ways to explore the scholarly literature through networks of entities linked through characteristics like citations, affiliations, field of work or awards received.
    • I am posting this from Johannesburg, and by the time of the Unconference, I will be in Gaborone for International Data Week, so in order to make this work, I would need a co-facilitator on site who would bring me in remotely. Happy to play that role myself if someone else wants to lead the session.
  • What type of session is it?
    • Other: demo and discussion
