Some more pointers on the matter:

  • the current schedules and map are available here
  • in February, CBS 19 ran a three-part story on life in Charlottesville without a car, zooming in on the bus system
  • they followed up with a two-part story on JAUNT
  • there are quite a few YouTube videos about buses in Charlottesville
  • on 17 April, C-VILLE ran a front-page story "We’ve got work to do: Lagging behind, Charlottesville aims for more ambitious climate goals" (archival copy — captured 5 times so far) that
    • put Charlottesville's carbon footprint into perspective:
      • it's a ton over the US average, which is about twice the rest of the developed world, which is about twice the world's average, which is about twice the amount the planet can bear in the long run
    • mentioned
      • "the ineffectiveness of the Charlottesville Area Transit" as well as related complaints, observations and efforts
      • that UVA has a big role to play
  • on 8 May, they
    • had a little side note that followed up on the above

"Charlottesville’s carbon emissions per household—11.2 tons annually—are a ton above the national average. City Council voted unanimously at its May 6 meeting to approve a climate action plan that includes a goal of 45 percent carbon emissions reduction by 2030, and total carbon neutrality by 2050."

    • ran a front-page story "Take the bus: Is this public transit’s moment?" (archived copy)
      • I am following the author on Twitter as part of my efforts to get to know the area and will ping him on doing something together on these public transport issues

No reply from the above yet, but by checking Twitter for things related to transport in Cville, I came across this tweet
https://twitter.com/cvilleclimate/status/1129166638664732673
which announced
a workshop "Transportation Choices: Bike-Ped, Rideshare, & Public Transportation Alternatives" on Monday May 20 (i.e. two days ago) as part of Climate Mondays.

For further activities in this space, see
https://www.cvilleclimate.org/climate-action-planning-info — includes "Transportation Technologies: Vehicles, Infrastructure, Technologies" on June 24.

I attended a "Charlottesville Area Transit User Experience Workshop" today, and it was fruitful. More to come.

Welcome, @SeanTubbs73 ! You're most welcome to check out the ideas in this repo, but if email is a better fit for you, that's fine with me - I just replied there.
