Theunis Piersma (born 15 June 1958, Hemelum)[1] is a Dutch professor of Global Flyway Ecology at the University of Groningen. He was a winner of the 2014 Spinoza Prize.[2]
Since 2009 Piersma is member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences.[3]
In 2014 he was one of four winners of the Dutch Spinoza Prize and received a 2,5 million euro grant.[4]
Piersma also works as Senior Research Scientist and Wadden Sea team leader at the Royal Netherlands Institute of Sea Research (NIOZ).[5]
