The 2019 PCORI Annual Meeting wiki party is a two-evening Wikipedia editing event at the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute conference on Wednesday and Thursday evening, September 18-19 2019. The event is open to people who complete the free registration. Expected attendance are people at the PCORI conference. This Wikipedia page exists to document the presentation and to share materials which supplement the presentation.

Agenda[edit]

This event includes wiki editing. The orientation at the start of the event is open to anyone who wants an introduction to Wikimedia projects and will be interesting even to people who are unable to join the editing workshop which follows.

6:00-6:10 - Introductions
6:10-6:20 - Presentation on Wikipedia and its medical community
6:20-6:50 - Log-in and begin editing
6:50-7:00 - Group check in and discuss any common questions
7:00-7:50 - continue editing
8:00-8:10 - Wrap up!

Instructions[edit]

"Editing Wikipedia articles on medicine"
  1. help your colleagues find this page by searching Wikipedia for WP:PCORI
  2. create a Wikipedia account or log in
  3. please check in to this event
  4. outside of Wikipedia, find a fact and a source to cite
  5. browse Wikipedia to find an article and a place in it to insert your fact
  6. post your fact in that Wikipedia article, add a citation, click save/publish
  7. you did it!
  8. Optional: Go to WP:WikiProject Medicine and ask for feedback.
    1. From that medicine project page, click "talk" at the top to go to the talk page
    2. click "new topic"
    3. Say, "I am a new Wikipedia editor. I just edited XYZ article. Can someone review what I did and give me feedback? Thanks."
    4. After writing a message, the wiki custom is to sign your name with "~~~~". The symbolism here is a signature with a wavy line.
  9. After the event everyone can access the event report from the page where you signed in, linked at the top of this page.
  10. If you like, there is a tutorial at Editing Wikipedia. Note that you can take the medical lesson, if you like.
