Has goals?
  • Expand Wikipedia's coverage of Beetles
  • Improve the quality of existing articles
~"If one could conclude as to the nature of the Creator from a study of creation, it would appear that God has an inordinate fondness for stars and beetles."
~ probably J. B. S. Haldane

WikiProject Beetles aims to improve Wikipedia's coverage of Beetles (Coleoptera). With about 400,000 described species, it is the largest of all orders, constituting almost 40% of described insects and 25% of all known animal life-forms. From the world's largest beetle, the Hercules beetle which measures up to 16.7 cm, to the smallest, a featherwing beetle Scydosella musawasensis which may measure as little as 0.325 mm in length, to the colourful Chrysolina cerealis, the familiar Coccinellidae, and the nuisance Colorado potato beetle, there is huge variation in the world of beetles. And with new species being frequently discovered, there is plenty of work to do.

Welcome! If you have any questions, please ask them on the talk page of this WikiProject.

History and progress[edit]

This project was founded on July 3, 2011 by User:John Troodon, who was a sockpuppet of User:Dromaeosaur Dude. Following a brief period of activity, it suffered a protracted period of decline, becoming semi-active and just nearly reached the inactive point. The project remained totally inert until late 2014, when it was revived by the efforts of a group of dedicated editors, including User:Gug01, User:Mishae (who was later blocked), User: Wilhelmina Will and User: Hectonichus. Since then, the project has expanded exponentially. There are now more and higher-quality articles about beetles on Wikipedia than at any other point in Wikipedia's history.

For progress, see /Progress.
