WikiProject Climate Change

The WikiProject Climate change (shortcut WP:PROCC ) is a collaborative effort to improve our articles related to any climate change throughout Earth's history, including human-caused global warming. For more information about WikiProjects, please see Wikipedia:WikiProjects and Wikipedia:WikiProject best practices.

Please feel free to join this project by adding your user name to the list of participants!

Scope[edit]

This WikiProject climate change covers all climate change and global warming articles. The major focus should be on articles relating to anthropogenic climate change. This includes

  • physical causes and effects of global warming
  • effects on the biosphere
  • effects on humans
  • mitigation, adaptation and geo-engineering
  • politics & public opinion/protest

Many articles might include both physical and social aspects. The WikiProject can help bring people together with different expertise. Following up on the Africa Climate Change workshop, we also have a Africa-specific task force.

Hot articles[edit]

In addition to hot articles, an especially important discussion is underway, which right now is about renaming (or merging) Climate change. Join us at Talk:Climate_change#Renaming_this_article_to_solve_confusion NewsAndEventsGuy (talk) 16:38, 10 October 2019 (UTC)

To-do[edit]

In order to monitor climate change related articles, place this page, the to-do list below, and any other pages on your watchlist.

Maintenance and upkeep[edit]

Sections of this list may overlap or repeat, if you can help organize it, please do

SPECIFIC PROJECT START UP TASKS
Inventorying project articles and providing for future housekeeping
1. Identify all the templates and categories related to the project, how they are used and what automatic processes are involved with them. Combine/merge/archive/update as needed. Where there are associated bots or automatic processes, test the expected behavior.

Place categories in #Categories etc.

2. Decide on the final details for a project banner (being discussed on talk page).

3. Define the trigger for having the project banner placed on articles. (This will probably be the manual placement of one or more category templates on the article).

4. Compare the set of articles that already have the old banner to the articles you would expect to have it based on step (3). Repair mismatches.

5. Get some expert help applying the project banner (2) to the definition in (3).

6. When done with steps 1-5, all of the project-related articles should have our project banner. Create a test article that includes the definition in (3) and verify it automatically added the test article and placed our project banner.

Assessment
add some step by step tasks here

Miscellaneous

  1. Polish look and feel of this project page.
  2. Consider developing a project WP:ADVICEPAGE. Possible topics are citation, conflict management, .... (your ideas here).
  3. Ensure info for new participants is in synch, in terms of listing here and adding userboxes, and being listed in categories.

GENERIC ONGOING TASKS

Basic project structure[edit]

Task forces[edit]

We already have one task force, focused on climate change in Africa. We need a way to advertise task forces on the main page. One option is to copy the method of our own parent project, WP:WikiProject Environment, which lists several task forces on their main page.

Guidelines[edit]

Any articles that are within the scope of this project should be tagged with the project banner WikiProject Climate change. You may also find {{WikiProjectBanners}} useful.

Stub category[edit]

Category:Climate change stubs has now been created to collect stub articles within the scope of this project. Please feel free to put the e {{climate-change-stub}} template onto any article that should be in the category.

I am thinking 'Atmospheric science stubs' should be a sub category of Climate Change stubs rather than the other way around as it has been set up. crandles (talk) 19:16, 7 October 2019 (UTC)
